Hello,

I'm experiencing major stability issues with my HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2013ns, equipped with an AMD Ryzen 5600H (Cezanne) and NVIDIA TU117M GPU, running the latest BIOS version F.30 (dated 04/23/2025).

Here are the key points:

MX Linux works perfectly

MemTest86 v7 (older version) runs fine with both RAM modules - no errors or freezes

Ubuntu and Pop!_OS only boot with acpi=off - otherwise I get a black screen or automatic reboots

Windows 11 installation always fails: the system reboots during the install process

BIOS F.30 has no ACPI-related settings (no power management, no ACPI toggle and no advanced config options)

This strongly suggests a firmware-level ACPI issue, which makes the system unstable with newer Linux kernels and even prevents Windows 11 from installing properly.

Is this a known issue on this model or BIOS version ?

Will there be a BIOS update to address ACPI compatibility or stability ?

Is there any hidden setting or workaround to disable or limit ACPI functionality?

Thank you for reaching out. Based on your detailed report and the issues on your HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2013ns (Product ID: 2P6B3AV):

You're experiencing:

  • Stability issues with Linux distributions (except MX Linux).
  • Windows 11 installation failures.
  • No ACPI configuration options in BIOS F.30 (dated 04/23/2025).
  • The system only boots Linux with acpi=off, indicating a likely ACPI firmware compatibility issue.


Steps you can try:
1. Reset BIOS to Defaults

  • Boot into BIOS (press Esc or F10 during startup)
  • Select "Restore Defaults"
  • Save and exit
  • Attempt to install Windows/Linux again without acpi=off


2. BIOS Restore:
1) Shut down the computer, keep the charger plugged in
2) Hold down the Windows and B buttons together while the computer is still turned off.  
3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B buttons until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.  
4) Follow the on-screen instructions and click on OK.

3. Try the Previous BIOS Version

BIOS F.30 may have introduced regression. If possible, roll back to BIOS F.28 or earlier, which may have better ACPI table compatibility.

If the HP site doesn't list older BIOS, you can try flashing from USB using the HP Notebook PCs - Recovering the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) | HP® Support.


4. Enable Legacy Boot or Disable Secure Boot (if available)

Some ACPI issues resolve when Secure Boot is disabled in the BIOS:

  • Boot into BIOS
  • Disable Secure Boot under the Boot or Security tab
  • Enable Legacy Support (if shown)

Save changes and reboot

First of all, thank you very much for answering me.

I will answer you point by point to the steps you suggested to me.

Steps 1 and 2 did not provide a solution.

For the step 3, I was able to successfully put back the old F.28 BIOS and left this one for now. But unfortunately it didn't provide a solution. I tried the F.29 BIOS as well and I couldn't install the F.27 BIOS.

And for the step 4, I don't have the option that enables Legacy Boot but I have the option that disables Secure Boot that I tried and unfortunately, I still encounter the same problems, namely that Windows 11 installer crashes with a reboot around 20 % of installation (with BIOS F.30, it rebooted before), Ubuntu freezes unless acpi=off is used. Only MX Linux boots and runs properly without ACPI workarounds.

Could you please forward this to the firmware or BIOS engineering team for review or do you have other steps to suggest to me? Is my laptop broken and I have to buy another one or is it fixable?

I'm happy to share the DSDT source file if needed.

Thank you for getting back to me and letting me know about the steps you've tried.

I would like to request you to please uninstall Ubuntu and just try to work only on Windows, as 2 OS on a pc can cause issues.

Also, after uninstalling Unabtu, please run a Hardware test on the PC and let us know the result.

Extensive Test -

1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer. 
2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key. 
3. On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests. 
4. Click Extensive Test.

First of all, thank you for continuing to help me.

I may not have been clear enough, but Windows no longer starts on my laptop and I can no longer reinstall it because of the random reboots.

I downloaded HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI and I installed it on a USB drive.

I started an extensive test as you recommended.

Here are the results:

Wireless Module Test: PASSED

System Board Test: PASSED

PCI Read Device: PASSED

Memory: PASSED

Onboard Video: PASSED

Audio: PASSED

USB: PASSED

Video Memory Extensive Check: PASSED

PASS ID: 7HS8A-2SOS7-FM7SF

Component Test: PASSED

Version 10.3.2.0 – USB

 

So the issue is still not solved. Do you have any other ideas?

Thank you for letting me know. This indicates that it's an issue with Windows. Please arrange a 32gb flash drive(empty) and another Windows 10 or higher pc, so we can perform a cloud recovery.

Hi VikramTheGreat,

 

When I bought my laptop in 2021, it was without an OS, so I don't think I can access to a cloud recovery. Moreover the only PC I have left is super old and is x86.

My Product Number is 3E3C7EA#ABE.

To test, I created a Windows 10 installation USB flash drive, but it had reboot during the installation, so it still doesn't work.

See this thread where the folks who experienced an ACPI BIOS error on their AMD processor-based notebooks were able to boot into Windows back again after trying DGroves' suggestion (hide TPM).

If it works for you, you may be able to reinstall Windows.
