HP Pavilion All-in-One PC 27-d0000a (7TC47AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all

Newly purchased HP Pavilion All-in-One PC 27 with Windows 11, and the same issue as others in the Community, fn keys only operate as fn when you hold the fn button down at the same time.  i.e.,  want to use F2 as F2 as dfault, not to reduce the volume........

I see on older PC's, Notebooks etc, there is an option to change this in the BIOS by Select the Advanced menu. Select the Device Configuration menu. Press the right or left arrow key to select Enable or Disable the Fn Key switch.  I've also seen advicde to change the Action Key Mode in the BIOS

The BIOS on my machine does not have an option for changing fn key behaviour in any of these ways.

Has HP taken away this option in the BOIS, or is there another method now to do this?

TIA

I have a similar issue with a ProBook G6 laptop with windows 10.

Long ago I had it set up to use the fn keys as fn keys, and press "fn-{key}" to do things like volume up, sleep, and other actions.

I updated the firmware a few days ago, and this was reset, and the system bios no longer gives the "action keys" option.

Also, the "fn lock" button no longer works, so it's impossible to manually set this up.

What happened? How can I go back to the old firmware where this works?

Thanks,

Bill

Hi@SiggyR,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are looking to change the Action Key Mode in the BIOS on the HP Pavilion All-In-One PC.

I have a few recommendations

  • Update your Notebook computer to the latest BIOS from HP.COM
  • Click on this link to Lock or Unlock the Fn (Function) Key

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Issue still remains

HP says I have the latest drivers, I cannot see on HP.com where I can manually download a new BIOS driver.

I agree Bill, this is very frustrating.

I use F2 all the time in Excel, this is a real problem, seems to only affect new HP machines, or when new firmware has been downloaded.

Trawling through some of the other blogs and websites, I don't think HP have a solution, the Action Key option seems to be missing on the latest BIOS firmware.

Let's see what HP have to say.....I'm not hopeful to be honest

Hi@SiggyR,

Thank you for responding, I appreciate your time and effort.

I apologize for the Inconvenience. If you do not have the option in BIOS, then you will not be able to disable the Action Key. The BIOS functionality to operate the F keys without the Fn key is not included in the current BIOS version.

Please feel free to contact us here anytime you need any further assistance.

Have a great day!
