Paul,
when you say a dual band card would work as long as there are 2 antennas connected to it, did you mean i dont have to run the 2nd antenna around the screen? i only have one antenna tied to the single band card that im trying to replace, so i am wondering how to install the 2nd antenna. i am not a hardware guy, so would it work if i simply leave the 2nd antenna by the motherboard? Also, do you mind pointing me to an antenna product link that may work with an hp pavilion amd motherboard / realtek dual band card such as Realtek RTL8822BE 802.11ac 2 × 2 Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter please? looks like antenna is generic and does not much specification but i dont know any better.
thank you very much in advance.

You're very welcome.
I wouldn't go through the hassle of adding another antenna cable.
If you don't do a professional job (by the book), then you have to jury-rig the setup and make sure you don't short anything out by having the metal transceiver touching the motherboard anywhere.
I have Spectrum cable internet. I pay for 200 MBPS download speeds.
Unless you are paying for 500 MB or more the 433 MBPS speed should suffice for you.

Hi:
In order to help you I would need to know the full model number or product number of your notebook.
Use this guide to find that info.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108
If you are referring to a card like the RTL8822BE 802.11ac, the Intel 7260 in the other post would not even fit inside your notebook.
Realtek makes an AC card that works with a single antenna on some model notebooks...the RTL 8821CE.
No need to do a thing, but swap out the cards.

Paul,
HP Pavilion - 15z Laptop
Product number: 5MU54AV
AMD CPU
i made the mistake of getting a b/g/n card and am now trying to address the issue. i am looking at 2 options - hopefully these are the right cards...
1. dual band, but then i need to get a 2nd antenna and figure out how to install it. i don't want to disassemble the whole laptop...
New HP 915623-001 Realtek RTL8822BE 802.11AC/ABGN BLUETOOTH 4.2 NGFF U98H133.00
2. single band. should be able to use the antenna already in the laptop.
New HP 915621-001 Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11AC BT 4.2 NGFF U98H132.00 L17365-005
thank you so much!

Hi:
From what I can tell, you have a pretty new model with a Ryzen processor.
You want this card for a direct swap...
Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported) HP part # L17365-005.
The only place I have been able to find this model is on eBay.
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=L17365-005&_sacat=0&_sop=15
The card has the same throughput as the 8723BE on the 2.4 GHz wifi band, but on the 5.0 GHz wifi band with an AC router, it has a maximum throughput of 433 MBPS.
