I am also wanting to expand RAM on a 255 G6 (AMD E2-9000e processor) from 4 to 8...would it help overall performance with simple things like having a few browser windows open?   Performance now is AWFUL!  thanks.

Hi:

Since your notebook has the E2-9000e processor, there is only one memory slot, I believe.

So you would have to remove the 4 GB chip and replace it with an 8 GB chip.

It will help a little.

The best thing you can do would be to replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" solid state drive.

I have the 255 G7 with the AMD A4-9125 processor, 8 GB if memory and it is not a speed demon either.

If it wasn't for the solid state drive it came with from HP, it would be slow as molasses.

thanks...I might look into the replacement drive.   This laptop was a gift so I would be willing to spend a little to make it perform better.   I honestly don't know what it was targeted to do. .email?   It can't handle anything.

You're very welcome.

I got mine on eBay for $116.00 in mint condition from a computer recycling company.

I think the model I have sells for around $400 new.

I would have been very disappointed if I had paid that much for it.

You are right...mine is just a step up from yours because it has the slightly better A4 processor, 8 GB of memory and the M.2 SSD.

I have seen some pretty bad reviews on the models that have the mechanical hard drive and 4 GB of memory.

I think they also made a few 255 G7's with the E2 processor.

I don't know how much drive space you need, but you can get this SSD for cheap and with 8 GB of memory, which is also cheap, you can make the notebook usable for less than $100.00.

If your notebook only has one memory slot (check first before buying memory), this would be the memory chip you could replace the 4 GB chip with.
