Do you think x360 1040 g5 can achieve the full speed of 970 PRO?

BTW, not sure if the latest BIOS can support it?

Nope. The M.2 SSD port on that motherboard supports both NVMe and Sata. Because of this, 2 of the PCIe lanes are shared for the Sata connection. This cuts the speed of NVMe from 3x4 to 3x2. Basically half.

Installing a pro version M.2 drive would just be a waste of money in my opinion.

SATA III can also be compatible with slot M in M.2 which is also for pcIe 3x4. If you look at the quick spec of 1040 g5, it did mention some pcIe 3x4 storages are expected to have maximum speed. So I guess 970 EVO is okay, but not sure about 970 PRO which might not in support list of BIOS.

Yes, if you read my comment above, I stated The M.2 SSD port on that motherboard supports both NVMe and Sata.

The NVMe drives themselves installed are 3x4 in spec, but that does not mean the mobo is utilizing that full potential.

I would have no way of knowing if the bios would have an issue with the pro version, but technically it should not matter.
