My Notebook had a BIOS update last night and locked me out. I was instructed to update my Microsoft password and my PIN does not work. Why would a BIOS update adversely affect my login procedures and how can I re set my PIN? I can access my notebook now with my Windows password, but I want PIN access again.

Your welcome. When the PC is new there are usually more BIOS updates, maybe a couple a year, usually forsecurity updates, improving system performance or bug fixes. As the computer gets older, less and less until it is no longer supported and looses any further updates.
I do not really know why it asks for the password instead of the pin, however I think it could have to do with secure boot and keeping an intact Windows system. You need to sign back into the Microsft account. It happens also when I replace a motherboard with exact same model of motherboard. So, probably for "security" reasons. So the update is not really messing with your OS, but it is the OS which notices a change and act arcodingly.
if you go to the support page for your model by searching here on site, under software and drivers you will find latest BIOS updates and also previous versions.
Hope it helps,
David

Hi,
You should be able to reset a pin login by going into settings (click on little gear above power options in start menu). Now in settings go to Accounts and then click on sign-in options. Here you should be able to add pin or change pin.
Hope it helps,
David

Thanks, David. Half of my question is answered and I was able to re-set my PIN. My other question goes to the BIOS update. Why would this action lock me out and require a password? That leads to other questions -- How often does HP do these BIOS updates?
--Will BIOS updates continue to mess with the Operating System?
Thanks again - I am glad to have PIN access again.
