HP Pavilion x360 14 Convertible PC 14-dy1000 (436S8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I purchased HP Pavilion x360 14 Convertible PC dy1000 in year 2022. The Laptop was delivered with the Rechargeable MPP 2.0 tilt pen. I hardly used it as no requirement then. Now when I try to use it, I cannot connect it to the Laptop. Few symptoms which I see, would like to mention here to have fair diagnosis.

1. The pen could not be found as bluetooth device by my laptop. Note Laptop bluetooth is working fine with other devices.

2. When I try to connect the charging cable, for fraction of second the amber light is on and immediately turn into white light.

3. Tried detecting the device with the charging cable connected. But still could not detect the device.

Hoping to find the solution to rectify the problem.

@Shashank_Chavan, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

We see issue with your HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen and your HP Pavilion x360 14 Convertible PC (14-dy1000). Based on the symptoms you've described, here's a step-by-step guide to help diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:

  • Pen not detected via Bluetooth
  • Amber light briefly appears, then turns white when charging
  • Pen not recognized even when connected via cable

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

Check Pen Battery and Charging

  • The amber light indicates charging; white light means fully charged.
  • If the light turns white immediately, the pen might already be fully charged or the battery might not be holding charge properly.
  • Try charging the pen for at least 30 minutes using a different USB-C cable and power source.

Test Pen Functionality

  • Open Microsoft Whiteboard, OneNote, or Paint and try writing on the screen.
  • Ensure Windows Ink Workspace is enabled:
Go to Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink and check pen settings.

Update Drivers and Firmware

  • Visit the HP support page and enter your product:
    HP Pavilion x360 14-dy1000
  • Update the following:
    • BIOS
    • Graphics drivers
    • Touchscreen drivers
    • HP Pen Control software (if available)

Reset the Pen

Some pens have a reset function:

  • Press and hold the top button for 7–10 seconds (if applicable).
  • If the pen has no button or this doesn’t work, proceed to the next step.

Test on Another Device

If possible, test the pen on another HP device that supports MPP 2.0 to rule out hardware failure.

If none of the above steps work, the pen’s internal battery or circuitry may have degraded due to disuse.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
