Hello HP Support,

I would like to add an SSD along with my current HD and like to boot OS from the SSD. Does my laptop support both SSD and HD together?. if the laptop supports both, then is there any performance impact for using both HD and SSD at the same time. Which product do you recommend for a 250GB SSD for my laptop HP Pavilion Notebook Z7Y95UA#ABA?

Thanks in Advance.

Hello @Tinoy,

Yes, your computer's Maintenance and Service Guide does mention the option of a dual storage configuration.

It will accept an M.2 SATA-3 or PCIe NVMe SSD. I personally think that the Samsung 850 EVO M.2 2280 is a great option.

You have a few options for setting the SSD as the boot drive such as:

  1. Using HP Recovery Media
  2. Conducting a fresh install
  3. Cloning

If you choose to purchase the Samsung 850 EVO M.2 2280, you can use Samsung's own Data Migration tool available free of cost.

Best regards,

Eddy

Hello @Eddy K

Is Samsung 860 Evo 250GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (MZ- 76E250BW) , a compatible SSD for my laptop?

or is it support  Samsung 860 EVO Series -250GB M.2 SATA Internal SSD (MZ-N6E250BW) ?

The above are the two SSDs available in my country.

Thanks,

Hello @Tinoy,

Nice to have you back.

Note that if you want to use the Samsung 860 EVO 250 GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive, you will need to replace the existing hard drive as they both use the SATA III interface.

Since you are looking to install an M.2 SSD, the Samsung 860 EVO Series -250GB M.2 SATA Internal SSD (MZ-N6E250BW) should theoretically work. There could be a slight compatibility issue but your purchase should most likely come with a flexible return policy.

Hope this helps,

Eddy
