I have an HP EliteBook 840 G8. Can anyone help with M.2 SSD compatibility Please? I wish to upgrade to a WD SN850X 2TB Gen 4 SSD.
My question is: Will the version with HEATSINK fit or do I need the NON HEATSINK version? Also, If anyone has suggestions about other M.2 SSD's that may be better, please advise me.
Many thanks,
Michael

The service manual (on page 2) shows supported storage drives that include a 2TB M.2 NVME gen 3x4 SSD.
A WD M.2 NVMe SSD you linked should work but will run at around gen3 speeds, as your M.2 slot is PCIe 3.0 (gen3).
Pages 41-42 of the manual show a thermal cover is preinstalled on the M.2 NVMe SSD, so you have to buy an M.2 SSD without a heat sink.
