Hi,
I have an OMEN 16 Gaming laptop.
I would like to upgrade the RAM to 32gb.
Below is the details about my RAM from CPU-Z
I have to replace the RAM with the exact model? Which model should I look for? It shows 4800Mhz. Can I buy like 5600Mhz and will it be compatible with my laptop? What else details should I look for?
Thanks

Hi:
Your notebook's processor can only run the memory at a max speed of 4800 MHz, so if you install DDR5-5600 MHz memory, it is only going to run at 4800 MHz.
You shouldn't have to use the same brand memory, and since you want to upgrade to 32 GB, you will have to remove the 8 GB memory chip anyway.
You may want to look into Crucial memory because they claim to have compatible memory for your notebook.

Below is the link to the service manual.
It's for the previous model series but it should be of help to you for opening up the notebook to install the memory.

Thanks for your reply.
Can I still use higher memory modules (like 5,600Mhz). I know it would run at 4800 only. Or I have to use 4800 or lower only?
Also, do I need to match memory Cas latency (32 36 40 42) as shown in the picture I shared?
When I use 2 16gb modules, it must have the same cas latency and all (other variables)?
Thanks

You're very welcome.
The Crucial memory has the standard CAS latencies for the speed so they should automatically bridge to the CL speed in your screenshot if you install faster memory.
You can use DDR5-5600 MHz memory.

Hi,
One more question.
Do I have to buy a 16gbx2 kit or I can install two 16gb stick separately.
I see in Amazon that 16gb Crucial stick has ₹4,087.26
Also, for Crucial 32GB Kit (2x16gb) has ₹12,850
Can I buy 2 x 16gb single stick?
Thanks

Hi:
As I replied earlier, that is the only service manual HP will be providing for the model series...The one for the 16-b0xxx model series.
We asked about that, and HP told us that they instituted a policy a couple of years back where they will no longer published new/revised service manuals in any HP consumer notebook model series.
For example, if HP releases a 16-b2000 model series, the only manual that will be offered is the one for the 16-b0xxx model series.
That makes it very difficult to answer questions for the newer models.
If I looked at the service manual that is linked on your notebook's support page, I would have told you that your notebook supported 2 x 16 GB of DDR4-3200 MHz memory.
If you wanted to see if different motherboards were available for the 16-1xxx model series, we couldn't answer that.
We could tell you what the part number of your notebook's motherboard is, but it would take a considerable amount of research to see if any others were available.
That's the downside of not keeping the manuals up to date, but there isn't anything we can do about it.
But just to let you know we did address our concerns about this situation.
And yes, you can certainly buy and install the single 16 GB chips if they are less expensive individually than as a pair.
That makes no sense that we have to pay more for a set of two than two singles.
Whatever happened to volume discounts? 😊
