I looked at the specifications for your laptop here and an SSD drive would improve performance over the 5400 RPM hard drive.

Is your system up to date?  Windows as well as 3rd party such as antivirus?

However, the slow down may not be the disk.  Several things you can easily check

1  Use an ethernet cable to connect instead of WiFi.  Does the system now run a lot faster?

2  Look in windows event viewer for errors or warnings such as timeouts or disk failures,

both application and system and if post back here if you see timeouts.

3 Get the "SMART " disk report.  If the bios does not provide a disk report then download either Speedfan or Hard Disk Sentinel and view the SMART report.  Both are free for non-commercial use.

SANITY CHECK:  Make sure that the maximum processor speed is set to %100 when plugged in.  You can check the actual speed of your processor using CPU-z
