Hi,

Can you provide the exact model or product number of the PC for further help. Here is how to find it (not serial number)

https://support.hp.com/my-en/document/c00033108

Usually the notebooks accept hard drives with max 9.5mm thickness which limits the possible capacity to 2TB (higher capacity than 2TB hard drives are thicker)

Let me know,

David

I don't have it yet but I configured one with the features I want with this HP ENVY Laptop - 17t. I want a 17" laptop with a SSD for the OS and a large HDD for data and music files with 16GB memory, and this was the only one I found that might work except I would have to increase the size of the HDD to at least 2TB.

For some reason the link to the laptop doesn't work unless you copy and past it?

Those models have max thickness of drive at 7mm. So you are going to get a max 2TB drive in that thickness which you can install in the PC without too much problem:

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D99S8Z7/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=seagate+2%2C5%22&qid=1551341828&s=gateway&s...

You could also take a look at the ZBook series of mobile workstations which usually have option for more internal drives and up to 128GB of RAM.

Hope it helps,

David

It appears the ZBooks start at $1749 and that one only has a 256 SSD without the additional HDD. The next one is $2273 and they are both out of my budget.

Out of mine too :generic:

Anyway, you can see that there are 7mm drives up to 2TB.

For the M2 SSD or a 2.5" SSD there is no limit to capacity.

David

Well I ordered that 17" Envy laptop for around $1,100, and when I add that 2 terabyte hard drive I'll be golden. Thanks for your help!

You're welcome.

Let me know if you need further help when the PC arrives.

In the meantime here is the HP support page for that model where you can find lots of info and more:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-17-bw0000-laptop-pc/20283127/model/21869542?sku=4HK24AV

On page 27 of service manual you can see how to replace the drive:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06001790

You could place the "old" drive into an external housing and use as a USB drive

Example:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWRRMYX/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=sata+usb+housing&qid=1551347217&s=gateway&s...

All the best,

David

Thank you, I appreciate the info and links!

I am not computer savy when it comes to taking apart computers so it may be a above my head, but I will consider it. I may end up taking it in somewhere to be done.

So is it possible to replace the 1 TB HDD with a SSD? I was thinking if I wanted a larger than 2TB (which is the max size in this application?).?
