I want to replace hard drive. Attempting to remove back cover per instruction from maintenance manual p. 33-35. Having difficulty where hinges are. Am I missing something that will not release the cover (All screws have been removed  that I can detect. If someone has a suggestion it would be appreciated.

Its not a zero force thing. It takes a bit of elbow grease to get the upper and lower halves separated. Best to use a flat wide non-marring tool like a spudger or credit card.
