I can't get the bottom cover off without breaking this thing. HP are you insane to make it this difficult? Video is a differnet machine. No optical drive  bay screw.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to read chapter 5 of the service manual...

Thank you, Paul. Wrong model number. This is 17-ar050wm. No optical screw in center. This was a refurb and didn't come with a manual. I will look it up.

The HP support videos and user guide are not helpful. The bottom cover appears to release indendant of the optical drive but actually goes under the optical drive. I have been unsuccessful in removing either the optical drive door or the unit itself. It is totally ridiculous. I found another post wherein the user has the same problem.

I have been looking for the same screw and what appears to be molded plastic is actually the Mylar screw cover that can be dug out with a pocket knife.
