HP Pavilion dv7-4000 Select Edition Entertainment Notebook PC series
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello! I have a laptop HP Pavilion dv7-4070er. Recently, the laptop refused to turn on - the NumLock key flashes. Apparently the processor refused.

I want to make an independent repair and upgrade of this notebook, namely: replace the processor, increase the memory to 8Gb, and install the SSD.

The question is: initially the laptop has AMD Phenom II Triple-Core Mobile P820 (1.8 Ghz, 25 Wt), but I have the opportunity to purchase AMD Phenom QuadCore P960 (1.8 Ghz, 25 Wt). Whether such processor is supported by this laptop and if not, what processor is suitable to achieve the maximum return from the processor.

Yes and odds are the problem is not the processor but the motherboard, regardless of beep or flash codes.

@Huffer makes a good point. I almost added a comment not to buy any other "upgrades" until you test another processor.Hated to appear pessimistic- but the fact is many times it is motherboard even if the blink code indicates cpu.
