HP Notebook - 15-da0073ms
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My 2 TB 5400rpm SATA hard drive is failing.  Can it be replaced with a 1TB ssd?  I would also like to upgrade the memory fron 8GB to 16.  Is this worth doing on a 5+ year old laptop?  It is a model 15-da0073ms.

Thank you!

Hi:

if the notebook is in excellent condition, it would probably be worth upgrading it.

Your notebook has a M.2 slot that supports an even faster type M.2 NVMe SSD, so you may want to consider installing one of those instead of a 2.5" SATA SSD.

You can upgrade the memory and it would be worth installing another 8 GB memory chip in the empty slot to have 16 GB of memory running in dual channel mode, instead of 8 GB running in single channel mode.

Depending on what size M.2 SSD you want, it shouldn't cost much to make your notebook run much better than new.
