Hi guys.

I have upgraded my HP Pavilion x360 14-cd1037tx main SSD drive. I have cloned it using cruicial cloning software. Followed all steps. However now when I reboot it it shows “Repairing disk errors. It might take more than an hour to complete”. Its been there for more than 1 hour now.

Hi @JFrancisC,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand you’ve upgraded the main SSD in your HP Pavilion x360 14-cd1037tx, and after cloning your original drive using Crucial cloning software, you're now seeing the message:

Repairing disk errors. This might take more than an hour to complete."

If the message has been on-screen for more than an hour, this suggests that the system is encountering issues reading the cloned drive or detecting critical startup components.

1. Wait a Bit Longer (If Possible)

  • Sometimes, after cloning, Windows attempts to auto-repair the new disk layout.
  • If it's still running after 2+ hours, proceed with the next steps.

2. Perform a Hard Shutdown and Boot into Recovery

  1. Hold the power button until the notebook shuts off.
  2. Power it on again and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly (once every second).
  3. On the Startup Menu, press F11 to open System Recovery.
  4. Choose Advanced Options > Startup Repair.

If this fails, continue to Command Prompt from the same Advanced Options menu.

3. Run Disk Check via Command Prompt

From the recovery Command Prompt, type the following:

Cmd: chkdsk C: /f /r

  • This will scan and attempt to fix disk-level issues.
  • If prompted to schedule at next boot, type Y, then press Enter, and restart.

4. Re-Cloning (If Issues Persist)

If the repair fails or loops again, the cloning may not have been fully successful. We recommend:

  • Reconnect the original SSD.
  • Boot into Windows normally and re-clone the drive using:
    • Macrium Reflect or
    • Crucial Storage Executive (if used previously)
  • Be sure to clone all partitions, including the EFI System Partition, Recovery, and Windows partitions.

Important: After cloning:

  • Disconnect the old drive completely before booting from the new one. Having both connected may confuse the bootloader.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
