Dear Friends,

I have a somewhat faulty DC power jack on my notebook and I plan to replace it.

Where can I obtain this part? Part #?

Is there any kind of "work around" so that the entire notebook doesn't require total disassembly. I have been down that road and would like to avoid it if possible even though the outcome was great. Very tedious and time consuming. Some notebooks are easier to perform this repair on then others as your aware.

ANY links, suggestions, and the likes would be deeply appreciated.

Thank You all for your help past, present and future.

Have a great day ahead.

Sincerely, Raphael

Here is the manual:

Manual

(8a) Power connector cable (also spared separately) 538085-001

Pages 4-38 and 4-45 show what you have to do. You do not need to remove the motherboard from the chassis. The job requires extensive disassembly, but not total. I wish I could make it an easier job for you.

Thank You!
it amazes me that computer manufacturers didn't address this issue and supply (2) two DC jacks (or some other option) seeing they are so prone to breaking and causing other problems. Such a simple necessary part that's been over looked by these engineers not thinking practically..a part that is fragile and in continuous use for notebooks...

I take it you have to remove the RTC battery as well. What extra steps will that require once the unit is back together?
It also looks like the screen needs to be removed as well.

I hope there will be no further questions!?
ALL of this over a part costing less than 10$...mind boggling.

Respectfully,

Raphael

I guess I have done this so much its like water off a duck's back. Count yourself lucky as not too many years ago you had to surface solder a DC jack into place. Having it on a removeable pigtail is a huge improvement and about all you can expect out of the engineers. You could not afford a laptop if they had to make every failure point redundant.

You do not need to remove the screen or the RTC battery although obviously make sure no ac or main battery power is going to the computer. Just remove the top cover and expose the jack mount and where the pigtail plugs into the motherboard.

Thank YOU! thats encouraging and helpful.

With all the use placed upon that jack and the necessity of it being reliable it only stands to reason "make it last" and don't buy in massive quantities of these parts from the least expensive maufacturers/suppliers.  Come on! I am sure when HP and many other companies were founded they were not building a company on minimal low quality parts.
More bells and whistles, but reliabilty took a hit as far as I can tell. What do I know?!

Have a pleasant evening ahead...it's great to know your out there.

Kind regards, Raphael

Hallo!
Are you 100% sure this is the right DC Jack?

Amazon had one and the cord itself was 18cm and the original is 22cm it was claimed. You'd have to splice the wires if that were the case.

I see the Part# listed correctly..I didn't see any mention of cord length in the Link you provided.

Thanks again,
Raphael
