Hello,

I own an HP 17-cn0053cl and would like to know how much it would be to replace the motherboard.

When connected to the AC adapter, the charging indicator light does not show. When connected to the AC adapter, the laptop does not start. When the battery is removed and the laptop is plugged into the AC adapter, the laptop does not start.

I have tried holding the power button with and without the battery. I have also tried leaving it plugged in to the AC adapter overnight and still nothing. My warranty is expired as it was a refurbished product.

I took it to a PC repair shop and they said it was most likely a motherboard issue.

Under California’s Lemon Law (Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act), manufacturers of electronic goods that sell for more than $100 have to provide spare parts for up to seven years, regardless of warranty status.

So my question is: how much would it cost for a new motherboard and what motherboard is needed?

How would I contact HP on getting a replacement part?

Thanks

@jesmod001,

My bad -I thought I had clicked the correct eBay product selection boxes, apparently not. Won't happen again.

Then the best -working- motherboard ("Condition: New") would set you back $252: M50447-601 Hp Intel UMA i5-1135G7 WIN Motherboard 17-cn0023dx | eBay.

Honestly, having followed similar damage/defective claims like yours for a while, you will get nowhere.  That's not to say if you choose to invest a great deal of time, effort and money, that you may get something, but you shouldn't hold your breath.

In any regard, filing a warranty claim of sorts regarding an expired warranty product, is ... problematic.

@jesmod001,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

you asked how much an HP Laptop 17-cn0053cl (316H8UA) motherboard costs these days.

According to: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c07594974, and: https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer?searchtext=316H8UA, your laptop is fitted with an HP p/n: M50447-601 motherboard ("MOTHERBOARD UMA i5-1135G7 WIN").

HP doesn't stock/sell your motherboard anymore.  Your best bet is to buy one used/refurbished.

Btw, I hate to break it to you, but you can contact HP on getting a replacement part for your HP Laptop 17-cn0053cl -let alone free of charge until kingdom come, but unless your laptop was still covered under their warranty, regardless of California's lemon law, you would be wasting your time -if you allow me to say so, a fellow-User, calling a spade a spade.

You can purchase one via eBay, starting at around $166: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=HP+M50447-601+&_sacat=0&L....

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Awesome. Although shouldn't I be able to buy the replacement part from the manufacturer (HP) rather than second-hand?

How would I contact HP for this?

The one starting at $166 does not work. Buyer states: “no boot, no post. came from HP 17-cn0025nr that was spilled on. damaged areas can be seen in photos. As-is for parts or repairs”

I can not guarantee an Ebay replacement will work which is why I want to buy one from HP...

The thing about the Lemon Law is that I (the consumer) should be able to buy replacement parts from the manufacturer (HP) regardless of warranty (given it was produced within the last 7 years). I just want to figure out how to contact them about this given that the only options they have for contact are a PAID support service and this forum.

So I found the support line:

[content removed]

They said that they are unable to ship parts due to a shortage and the current workflow is to send the product to them to be repaired.

All-in-all, to do that it would cost $492.74. The laptop itself cost $300, so this is not worth it.

So i guess I will be looking at local shops to see if they can do motherboard repairs or buy off Ebay like you suggested.

Thank you!
