I have a backlit keyboard and would like to replace it with a standard keyboard. Is this possible without causing problems? If so, is there just one choice of standard-type keyboard, or are there multiple choices? What is/are the part number(s)?

Thank you for the info you provided. Very helpful.
Because a standard black-key keyboard can't be installed, an option for increasing the readability of the keys in the lighting I work in might be to apply a set of black stickers to the keys. A variety are available at:

You can simply remove the keyboard and disconnect the backlight ribbon cable and reinstall if you want to disable the backlight. Or just never turn it on? What is it about the backlit keyboard that you do not like?

1. In the lighting in which I use the laptop 99% of the time, I can't see the characters very well, with backlighting on or off.
2. The silver coating on the white plastic keys wears off after 2-3 years of use, and I have to replace the keyboard. I've replaced it once and need to replace it again.

The part number depends on the language of the keyboard.
There is only one part number for each language so all of them must be backlit. The US Keyboard is 496672-001

HP does not have the Manual any more but I found it on a 3rd party site:

Keyboards are listed on p. 22 on the above website.

Actually, my solution is only a band aid, since these stickers wear off after several months. I'd really rather have installed a standard, black-keyed keyboard as a long-term solution.
I only decided to get the stickers after learning from you that a standard keyboard can not be installed on my laptop. I appreciate the effort you expended on this issue for me. Thank you.
