I have an EliteBook 840 G3 with a cracked cover...has anyone replaced a cover?  I can't find any instructions on how to actually safely remove and replace the cover.840 G3 cracked cover.png

Sure this is the part you need:

For HP EliteBook 848 and HP EliteBook 840   821161-001

Service Manual

Look at page 78. You do not need to remove the screen from the laptop. Remove the bezel or front display frame and then unbolt where the hinges hook into the back cover (your cracked part) at the bottom and top and you should be able to separate the back cover from the screen and then put the new one in place and reverse the procedure.

Above is a brand new one shipped from China. There are lots of these on eBay in various conditions. Post back if you want some more options and please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.
