Solved!
Replace non-backlit keyboard with backlit keyboard
09-23-2019 12:59 PM

I purchased my Elitebook 840 G5 and did not notice that I had ordered a system without a backlit keyboard. I am hoping that I can order a backlit keyboard and replace my existing keyboard as it seems to be an option on most of the 840 G5s. I figured I would ask here before I pop the keyboard out and look to see if it has the backlit port for the keyboard to plug into.

Thank you in advance for any advice/help.

Please use part # on page 25 of the following manual (you need to pick the right keyboard for language ...)

But I don't think a backlit keyboard alone would work, you need a system board which has connectors to keyboard lights.
Regards.

@Banhien - thanks for the quick reply. Looking at the SKUs for the system board there is only one system board SKU for my laptop/processor combo, so that is what is leading me to believe that the backlit keyboard could be a drop in replacement. I am going to add some more RAM next week, so I guess I will pop the keyboard out and see if the connector is there on the board.

I ended up ordering a backlit keyboard since I was taking the laptop apart to replace the RAM. I popped the keyboard out and sure enough there was a plug on the board for the backlit keyboard, so I swapped that out and upgraded the RAM to 32GB. I had both upgrades done and the system back together within 30mins. Extremely Happy.
