@Waaaaaalter,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

It just shows you the genuine HP spare part number, in case it needs to be replaced.

Doesn't mean you are obliged to -especially if your PC has run out of warranty.

Then there is the business side of things: naturally HP would like you to purchase their (replacement) parts.  -To their defense, these parts are precisely calibrated and tested to HP's exact product specifications.

Kind Regards,

Those come from the same vendorthat HP orders stock and keep some for repair or upgrades through their PartsFinder. Parts like batteries mose people will try to get an OeM HP part because they are generall considered well made.  Upgrading memory and drives have industry standards so as long as the specs match for the memory, it's fine. Same with hdds and ssds, make sure the PCIE version is correct and you can use any brand.

Sadly HP only carries parts for maybe 2 years for any particular model. Guessing that HP sells it to other resellers or the vendors make more of the same then sells to other resellers
