I had a cracked screen repaired a bit ago on my laptop, when I got my laptop back I started it up on battery power to make sure it worked and didn't think to check my power cord. I finally noticed the HP Smart Adapter error pop-up when I plugged it in a few days later. The repair shop swears up and down this is the adapter I gave them but it is not. Anyway, I tried to find a replacement adapter on HPs site using my model # only to be told that my model number is incorrect. I'm entering it exactly as it is printed on the bottom of my laptop and now I can't find out what adapter I need, even when trying to Google it. Any help here to find out which one I need?
The current adapter I have on hand is 19.5 V - - 4.62a 90w max.
My laptop model is 17t-ab000 and my battery shows 10.95v - - 62Wh with an HP P/N: 849571-221. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi:
The good news is that there is only one charger listed for your notebook's product number.
https://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?searchText=V2Z45AV
The bad news it is appears the charger you currently have is not the one that came with your notebook.
It should have been 710415-001.
You can buy the charger with the new part number at the HP parts store for $112.94 but, it is currently on back order.
Plus you have to buy the power cord that goes from the wall socket to the charger.
So what I recommend is this...buy a genuine used but tested and working HP charger on eBay.
I would not recommend an aftermarket one.
I searched by the original part number, and there are some for sale that also include the power cord that goes from the wall socket to the charger. I see them listed for between $25 and $35.

Hi:
There are 4 different power adapters that the 17t-ab000 model series uses based on the hardware the PC has.
So, we are going to have to narrow this down to the right one.
I'm hoping the parts list for your specific notebook's product number will have the one power adapter required.
Please post the product number of your notebook.
Use this guide to find that information...do not post the serial number.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108
The other thing you can check is to see if the power adapter's part number you currently have, matches any of these four that are listed in the service manual for your notebook's model series...
AC adapter:
120 W PFC, S-3P, slim, 4.5 mm, (for N16-6X, NV 17P-G0, and NV 17P-G1 (KBL-U) only) 710415-001
135 W PFC, S-3P, slim, 4.5 mm, (for NV 17P-G1 (CFL-H) only) L15534-001
150 W PFC, S-3P, slim, 4.5 mm, (for products with 7th generation processors only) 776620-001
GNRC, 150 W PFC, slim, 4.5 mm, (for models with NV17P-G0 and N17P-G1 (KBL-H) only) 917649-850

Good lord that's alot for a power adapter! Thank you for doing all the leg work that you did though, I really do appreciate it. I'm trying to prove with pictures I have that my charger is not the one they gave back to me (I have to have my electronics safety checked for my job and my stickers from that were still on my cords the day I gave it to them. I took pictures for proof of condition 😁). If this works out in my favor I'll have them buy me a new one if they can't find mine. And if it doesn't work in my favor I'll go on ebay and find one.
Thanks again!

You're very welcome.
I was thinking the same thing.
I figured it would be a 90W adapter, tops.
Now you know why the notebook is complaining about the adapter you are using now.
It's like 'Tim the Tool Man'...It wants more power. 😊

Haha, Tim the Tool man, loved that show. But alas I agree, I'm just irked I didn't notice it right away and that they're being such dic*heads about it. At that price I'm wondering if they didn't take mine and sell it to another customer.

I loved that show too.
You can show them the service manual and show them this discussion and the fact that the part number of the power supply they gave you does not match any of the ones listed in the manual (which probably would have been even more expensive since they were higher wattages).
Here is the link to the service manual. The power supplies are listed in chapter 3 on page 30.
