Common problems for Battery
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about: Battery Reports, Hold a charge, Test and Calibrating Battery . Check out this link: Is your notebook plugged in and not charging?

Pavilion
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My battery suddenly stopped charging.  Laptop works when plugged in and battery is recognized, but system tray says 0% available (plugged in).  As soon as I unplug it, the notebook shuts off.

Assuming the battery is the culprit, I need to replace it, but when I search by my laptop part number (17t-ab000 CTO) I get no results that list that number.  I'd like to order a replacement with confidence that I'm getting the right part.

Here is your Service Manual http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06001788.pdf  It calls for an HP part  849911-850, Use that to search HP PartSurfer, google it for resellers, try Amazon or eBay are other options.

Try and get a HP part, the age of the laptop may leave you with no other option than a generic replacement battery, but they are less in price. Read reviews of the product if you want to go generic. There are some good ones, and some not so good ones.

I have seen laptops with the same symptoms, sometimes it's the battery, sometines it's the charging circuit on the motherboard.

Hey PBrousard, thank you for taking time to respond.  I wonder now if my problem might be the charging circuit and not the battery after reading your post.  The reason I think this may be the case is that the battery/laptop worked fine until a recent trip to Las Vegas.  I brought the laptop with me, but never tried to use it until I returned home 4 days later, and then it wouldn't boot up unless it was plugged in.  The problem surfaced suddenly with no degradation - worked one day and the next time I tried it, nothing.  Aside from buying a battery, is there a way to diagnose the notebook?
