Does anyone know if the 15t-da000 CTO mechanical HHD be replaced with an SSD?

You're very welcome.
Normally the drive capacities listed in the service manual are just what HP offered in the model series, not the maximum capacity supported.
For example: Crucial indicates that they offer NVMe SSD's up to 4 TB in storage capacity for the model series:

Hi:
You can replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SSD.
If your notebook has an Intel core processor, it also has a M.2 slot that supports the faster NVMe SSD's.
See chapter 1 of the service manual for the supported drive types.
