Pavilion 17-e049wm I nee

I need a replacment battery for my HP Pavilion 17, and when I go to the HP parts store it says that the replacement battery for it has been discontinued. Is there a different battery that would work for it? It's still in good shape for what I need it for, the battery just does not hold a charge at all anymore.

After a fairly short period of time HP stops selling replacement batteries for its laptops. HP introduces so many new models so fast I think the logistics of trying to stock batteries for laptops over about 18 months old is too much and is not really the business HP is in. So, you are relegated to the battery aftermarket which is actually a very solid and reliable source of product.

You can use either of these batteries by HP Part No:

6 cell, 62 Wh, 2.80 Ah, Li-ion battery
710417-001
6 cell, 47 Wh, 2.20 Ah, Li-ion battery
710416-001

Your laptop came with the weaker 47 wh type but you can install the 62 wh kind as well. This is an external clip in battery so easy to replace.

You live in the USA and I assume you can use amazon.com. There are two broad choices. Look for a reseller offering genuine HP batteries or buy an aftermarket 3rd party battery. For older laptops either is a viable option.

Aftermarket 3rd party:

I found no "genuine" batteries on amazon.com so eBay is an alternate source.

This is a genuine HP 47 wh battery just like yours offered by a seller with very good credentials:
