HP ENVY x360 - 15-cn0001ne
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

As my original battery for my laptop showed bulging, requested for a replacement battery from Authorized HP service center.

Replacement Battery was not getting detected or charged by the laptop. The service center tried with another batch after few weeks of ordering, faced same issue.

I was still using my old bulged battery even though battery backup was less. Prior to receiving the third battery, the original battery got exhausted.

Third battery came last week and still battery is not getting detected.

Raised ticket with HP as suggested by Service center and HP support collected some information after running some utilities, and later asked me to replace motherboard at service center and try my luck if it helps.

Unfortunately, there is no HP care pack available for my laptop model from HP anymore and hence my laptop is not under warranty, even though I want to have.

Service center do not have spare mother board to do a trial check and only option is to purchase the motherboard and then try out, which could end up in wastage of money. HP support as of now do not have any concrete confirmation that motherboard is faulty.

Even though HP support asked to try by replacing the motherboard, my old exhausted battery is still getting detected by the system at boot as well as Windows level.

This clearly shows that motherboard is fine and detection is not happening only for new batteries.

Note: Battery driver uninstallation method already tried and did not help.

Please share solution if you have come across similar situation and got it rectified.

Tried all the above methods already. Still no luck in getting the battery detected.

  • May I know from when are you facing this issue? Since April 4th 2022, when I tried the new replacement battery from HP.
  • Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it? No changes were made except the battery replacement. If I put the old OEM battery, it still gets detected. Detection only for new batteries only.
  • Are you able to boot into Windows when you plug in the AC adapter? Yes, I can boot into windows.

Thank you for suggesting possible smart chip issue in battery which I also suspect and told them from the beginning. But it is something service center cannot do checking.

They consulted with HP technical team and again, they are insisting on replacing motherboard, without providing  any reason for such a diagnostic.

Service center keeps on reminding me to approve the quote and when I ask the reason for replacement, I do not get any reason. They will say they will call back, but never does.
