I cannot charge my laptop. I have 2 HP charging cords both of which test at 19.75v so I assume the problem is the charging port on the laptop. Is the solution to purchase a new charging port and connection? If so part number and where to purchase?

Have you tried a full diagnostic test on the battery? The charging port is soldered to the motherboard so the official fix if the port is bad would be replacement of the motherboard. A very skilled tech could perhaps desolder the port and solder on a new one, but its rare to find someone with those skills. The laptop is easily old enough for the battery to have died so please test that theory before you turn to trying to replace the charging port. If you want to proceed we can likely find a place to buy the charging port piece.

Post back with any more questions.

A closer inspection of the charging cord's male plug showed a single wire centered at the base but leaning up against the wall of the plug. A close look at the charging port showed an insertion point in the middle with a gold contact on each side. I managed to straighten the "single wire" so that it would insert properly in the port. With this the charging light lit and the charging process started. I went through the same procedure on the second charging cord and it also now has been charges.  Thanks for your prompt response. I thought about a bad battery but did not know how to test for it.

Yes that center wire is critical. Glad you got it fixed. Post back if you need any more help.
