HP Envy 15 j163ei
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Owing to numerous repairs over the year, the intenral plastic mount for the right hinge of my HP Envy 15 J163ei laptop screen has broken. The screws can no longer hold the right hinge in place and thus the right portion of my LCD has become damaged from the excess freedom of movment. I would like to repair the screen (which I am able to do) but without replacing the internal plastic mount the new LCD will just get damaged again.

Does anyone know what the part number is for the plastic mount and is it possible to get a replacement part for it so I can install a new LCD without worrying about damaging it?

The SKU number for my laptop is F7R42EA, if that is useful.

There is no separate part number for the mount. It is embedded in the lower casing or sometimes the top cover and perhaps even the rear screen housing. That is why hinge issues are so destructive. The parts that get broken are large expensive chassis pieces.

Here is the Manual:

See the exploded diagram on p. 19. You likely need the part labeled 17 and maybe number 2.

Examine the damage and compare to actual available parts. Let us know what you need. Your best bet is to find parts units on eBay to serve as donors for the parts you need. Buying them separately and individually can be expensive but sometimes you can luck out and find them for a reasonable price. HP will not have the parts in stock any longer.

I definitely think it's that part (17 on page 19). I will have to see if I can confirm that and then source something on eBay to compare to.

Thank you for your help. I might have to make the decision of replacing the chassis or the laptop if I cannot source a donor device.
