Hi all,
so in my refurbbed HP 15 da0012dx laptop the DVD drive died and I bought a replacement.
Do I just power down and swap it out, or do I need to take it apart and remove the battery first ?
also, any hints on getting the old bezel cover off the old and onto the new drive?
all advice appreciated, my first one of these. THANK YOU
Justin

Hi, Justin:
Here is the link to the HP video for removing and replacing the DVD drive...
Replace the Optical Drive | HP Notebook 15, HP 250 and 255 G7 Notebook PC | HP - YouTube
There is no need to remove the battery.
However, I would not have the PC connected to the power adapter.
Unfortunately, since I do not know how the bezel is secured I wouldn't be able to help you with that.
You'll have to look carefully at how the bezel is attached to the existing drive.
Normally, it is held on by a couple of very delicate plastic tabs/clips that you bend to release the bezel.

You're very welcome.
Normally it is good practice to remove the battery in most cases when working inside a notebook, but it is normally not necessary when replacing a DVD drive, because you are not working 'inside' your notebook to remove the DVD drive in your notebook's model series.

aha well thanks for that insight. hopefully I won;t have to dig into the guts any tie soon.
thanks to you I was successful I am so happy 🙂
The bezel, I need to do another post for that, I can see the 2 clips and so far no luck pulling them out. worst case I can chop up the old dead drive with a dremel tool. hopefully there is a trick to be learned. jl
