Replacing HDD for SSD

Hi there,

I’m trying to see if I can replace my HDD for an SSD because I’m playing a game that’s rather slow and with it being an oldish laptop I clearly need an SSD, tried wiping the laptop that did nothing, Is it possible to replace my HDD for an SSD on my Pavilion 15-e092sa Notebook? Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi:

Yes, you can replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SSD.

If you want a recommendation and can get this model in the UK, it provides the best read/write speeds at the lowest cost I could find.

I have the 250 GB model and it works great.

Thanks for your advice, I purchased the item you recommended, however I’ve had problems installing the new SSD.

I followed the procedure in replacing the HDD with my new SSD, seemed to fit fine and was looking good. However when I turned on the laptop it came up with ;
Boot device not found

Please install an operating system on your hard disk

hard disk (3FO) I performed the smart check and long dst check which both passed, still didn’t work.

I then followed videos on changing the BIOS setup and changing the legacy support to enabled. 
After doing this the screen says “No Bootable device - Insert boot disk and press any key. Nothing happens, followed videos on how to get round this and nothing works, I’ve since taken my SSD back out and put the Old HDD back in, which works fine, no idea what to do next. Any help appreciated

Did you reinstall Windows on the new SSD?

Drives don't come with operating systems included.

You have to install an operating system.

You didn't post what version of Windows you were running.

I can give you a free way to reinstall Windows if you provide that information.

I know the PC originally came with W8 from HP.

Sure, no problem.

Get an 8 GB USB flash drive and use the media creation tool at the link below to create a bootable W10 USB installation flash drive.

Boot from the USB flash drive.  To do that, turn on or restart the PC.

Immediately start tapping the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F9 boot options menu, and from that, select the USB flash drive with W10 on it and press the Enter key.

The PC should boot from the flash drive and you can follow the onscreen instructions to install W10.

When you get to the part of the installation that asks you to enter a product key, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Would an external Hard drive work? If not I will go and buy a usb flash drive tomorrow, thanks for your help.

I can't say if it would or not.

If you want to try it, bear in mind that the media creation tool will format the entire portable hard drive, so you would lose everything you currently have stored on it.

I think that would be the best thing to do.

If you have writable DVD's, and a DVD burner, you can select the option to download an ISO file and burn the ISO file to a DVD instead.
