Hi. I own a pavilion gaming 15-ec1002nx and I'm looking to REPLACE (not add additional) the SSD into a 1TB SSD. how do I go about doing this since there is no windows on the new SSD? What will happen once I replace and boot my laptop? Do I need additional gear since it's a replacement not an addition?
Also, how do I find out if my laptop supports two 32gb RAM? looking at getting Crucial RAM 64GB Kit (2x32GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL22
Crucial website shows that the 16gb sticks are compatible but it doesn't list the 32 (x2) so I don't know if they are and don't know how to make sure.. any help is HIGHLY appreciated!

Hi:
Since your notebook came from HP with W10, you have a few options:
1. See if your notebook is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool which you can use to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with the notebook. Here is an info link for how to use the utility. You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Customer Support
2. Clean install W10 on the new SSD by making bootable installation media with the media creation tool from the link below.
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
The W10 product key is encrypted in your notebook's BIOS so you don't need the key to reinstall W10.
After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
3. Buy a USB 3.0 to NVMe adapter and clone the existing drive's contents to the SSD using free cloning software such as Macrium Reflect.
Memory:
HP only has the service manual for the older 15-ec0xxx model series and according to chapter 1, the max memory for the older models is 2 x 16 GB of memory.

You can do this to confirm how much memory your notebook can support:
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.
