A week ago my battery stopped charging. Hoping to salvage the battery, I started investigating. The HP diagnostic tests were not consistent. Sometimes I got Passed, sometimes Replace, sometimes Unknown, No Battery, or Failure. Then three days ago, all of the HP diagnostic tools were consistent in recommending I replace it. I got a generic one on Amazon, and this new one is charging. But now I can't run the Battery Check. Maybe I should leave well enough alone, but I'd feel much better knowing this battery passes the tests.
Here are my concerns:
- Battery Check in HP Support Assistant gives error: Charged (100%). Primary Battery: Unknown (90). HP Battery Check was unable to access the battery. Please shut down the PC and re-insert the battery and AC Adapter. If this does not correct the problem, please verify that you are using the latest version of HP Battery Check and the latest BIOS version. (See HP Support Assistant or check on www.hp.com for information on software updates.)
- Battery Check in HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows runs for a few seconds then says Canceled. The test log message is: CeementBatteryCheckResult: 12. Before I installed the new battery, the battery checks completed with CeementBatteryCheckResult: 11.
- Battery Test in HP Diagnostics UEFI message: "No Battery installed. The Battery must be installed before the system is started" but the system does start. Before I installed the new battery, the UEFI tests were completing with status Failed. I even have some failure ID codes but the HP website to look up the IDs isn't working
- Bootup message: Non-HP battery detected.
This is what I've done so far:
- Check for BIOS update (already updated)
- Check for Windows updates (already updated)
- Check for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows update (already updated)
- Check for HP Support Assistant update (already updated)
- Check for HP Diagnostics UEFI update (updated from 7.6.2.0 to 7.7.0.0)
- Check for battery driver & firmware driver update (already updated)
- Uninstall battery driver and firmware driver using Device Manager
- Take the battery out and put it back inAny ideas?

@Kateylynn4 Welcome to HP Community!
I understand that you are getting Primary Battery: Unknown (90) message.
I would strongly suggest Testing and Calibrating the Battery. Should that not solve the issue, I would suggest calling in for support to see about replacing the battery, as it should not be displaying "no battery is pluged in" when you run a battery check.
Please use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp and create a case for your issue and contact HP.
