HP Pavilion Notebook – 17-g162no
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi Everyone,

Hoping to get some pointers on how to go about upgrading to an SSD. Im using:

HP Pavilion Notebook – 17-g162no (ENERGY STAR) 17.3 inch screen
prod name: W0X41EA#UUW
[edit]

Its got a 1GB hybrid SSHD- which really isnt anything but a 5400rpm.
When searhing the help articles I notice that HP really doesnt want you to open up their laptops. There are just redirects to pages redirecting you to other pages.

What I want to know:

1. I guess my product supports uppgrading to any SATA 2.5 inch SSD?

2. Where are the hidden screws and how do you remove them? May have to heat up the stickers hiding them?

3. Any common mistakes that clueless people are bound to do? (got some ESD protection  and have assembled a stationary.. once)

4. If you know a good place to get step by step instuctions.

Thank you so much in advance.

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04655126

It will contain the info you need to replace the drive.

Your notebook will support a 2.5" SSD and it should help a lot with performance.

Not that there are different read write speeds for sata SSD's even from the same manufacturer, and the faster ones are normally only a few bucks more.  So get the fastest one you can for your money.
