Common problems for Battery

Pavilion 15-AU185SA

Hi there

I need to replace the battery on this laptop (holding less and less charge), but I realize it is not a item that I can easily source and fit myself as the battery is internal and I would need to open the case. It's out of warranty. I'm based in the UK.

Can anyone point me to:

  1. Where/how quickly/at what cost I might get this done through HP (given it's out of warranty)?
  2. Where I might get hold of the necessary part (and get it fitted locally, which might be quicker)?

Seems daft to buy a new one when this is working OK...

Thanks!

This is the HP Part number for the battery:

Battery 2C 41WH 5.36Ah LI BP02042XL-PR
849909-855

Pages 29-32 show the procedure for replacing the battery. The hard part is removing the rubber strip and getting it placed back properly but other than that it is just a matter of removing the back cover.

These batteries are pretty hard to find. I would not normally recommend a refurbished battery but the options are pretty limited in this case. I checked UK amazon, some UK battery stores, HP Parts, etc:

If HP Parts does not have the battery there is no sense trying to take it to HP to replace the battery. Any decent computer repalr shop can do the replacement. The problem is going to be sourcing the battery, Replacement is not as hard as you think if you want to try some self-help.

Thank you both for the help and advice - just what I needed to know, if not what I wanted to hear. It doesn't look like too daunting a replacement procedure. We'll see if I can find a battery, though. At least I know what needs to be done.

Thanks again!
