HP Laptop 17-by4xxx
Microsoft Windows 11

My notebook came with kioxia kbg40znv256g as its SSD.

I am willing to replace this with a higher capacity SSD but this SSD is shorter in size than the larger capacity SSDs.

I would like to know if the longer size m.2 SSDs (almost double length like Kioxia Exceria series) will fit into my PC or not.

Thanks in advance for help.

No idea what you are asking. The NVME M.2 SSD in your laptop is a 2280 form factor as is the Kioxia Exceria. 22 mm wide and 80 mm long. Can you maybe send a picture?

Thanks for the response. Let me make myself more clear.

The Nvme drive in my laptop (kioxia kbg40znv256g) is not 2280 but 2230. It is shorter.

I am trying to find out if the slot in the laptop can host a 2280.

In the link below you can see the current drive.

The Service Manual does not show the use of a 2230 disk so not sure where this is installed. You should be able to look at the slot (M.2 is all the same plug-in regardless of the length of the module) and see if there is a mounting point further away from the plug-in.

I did not want to disassemble the body just to check this. It is interesting, there is no info on it.

Is there a way to access HP engineering or service department.

I also want to learn the max memory I can install on it.

The mainboard is 881B and I can not find any info about it aswall.

So you have not actually seen the M.2 SSD? The product identification you put in your first post is for a 2280 SSD. The product you speak about in your later post with a picture is different and is a 30 mm disk. The laptop can take 32 gigs DDR4 memory.

🤣

The product came with a 256MB Nvme in 2230 format (shown in the link in previous post).

I am trying to find out (without disassembling my PC) if a 2280 will fit into it or not.

The answer should be "Yes, it will fit" or "No, it won't fit" or "Not documented anywhere, disassemble your product."

Thanks for precise info on max memory.

I disassembled the laptop.

The slot is suitable for 2280 (actually the one inside is also 2280, not 2230).

The board does not have a SATA connector for HDD/DVD/CD.

It has 2 memory slots, hope I can install 32GB.

Thanks for your interest in helping.

I like to think I know the product pretty well so I appreciate your acknowledgement that it did not have a 2230 M.2 SSD. You are welcome for the information. Enjoy.
