Dear HP Support,

I am contacting you regarding a persistent and serious system-responsiveness problem with my HP Victus 15-fa0033dx, equipped with an Intel Core i5-12450H processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 4 GB graphics.

I would like to request that this case be investigated beyond the normal Windows, driver, and basic troubleshooting procedures and, if possible, escalated to HP's engineering or firmware team.

The laptop originally had a much more serious freezing problem on BIOS versions F.33 and earlier. The machine could completely freeze for extended periods, making the computer effectively unusable until the system recovered or was restarted. After updating the BIOS to F.34, the severe full-system freezing problem was substantially improved and, for practical purposes, the major freezing behavior appears to have been resolved.

However, the laptop still exhibits persistent short-duration system "hiccups," micro-stutters, and momentary interruptions during normal use. These are not simply gaming frame drops. They can occur while performing ordinary Windows desktop actions such as opening the User Account Control (UAC) prompt, opening the Notification Center, interacting with Windows interface elements, or performing other routine operations.

During these events, the entire system can appear to briefly pause rather than simply showing an application-specific slowdown. The behavior can also affect audio and video playback, which leads me to suspect that the issue may involve system-level interrupt latency, DPC/ISR latency, ACPI/power-management behavior, firmware, the Embedded Controller, PCIe/device power-state transitions, or another low-level interaction between the hardware and Windows.

I have attempted to eliminate the normal software causes as thoroughly as possible.

I have installed HP's recommended drivers, Windows-recommended drivers, the latest NVIDIA drivers, the latest Intel drivers, and multiple other driver versions. I have completely removed graphics drivers using DDU before reinstalling them. I have also performed a completely clean installation of Windows.

In addition, I have used Windows' built-in repair/reinstallation mechanism that downloads a fresh Windows update package and uses it to repair the existing installation. I have run DISM repair commands and SFC /scannow, and I have repeated driver installation and testing using different driver combinations.

None of these procedures has eliminated the remaining system hiccups.

This makes it difficult to attribute the problem to a corrupt Windows installation or one particular graphics driver. The strongest evidence for me is the BIOS behavior itself: the severe freezing problem changed significantly after moving from F.33 and earlier BIOS versions to F.34, while shorter system-level interruptions have remained.

There is another particularly unusual and reproducible symptom involving external storage.

When I connect an external Gen 3 NVMe SSD and run CrystalDiskMark against that drive, the system can develop significant audio distortion and video playback becomes heavily affected by stuttering/lag throughout the benchmark. The audio can become distorted or interrupted and video playback can exhibit obvious frame loss/stuttering while the disk benchmark is running.

What is particularly interesting is that this does NOT simply happen whenever the external SSD is being used at high transfer speeds.

For example, I can move large files to the same external NVMe SSD at comparable sustained speeds without reproducing the same degree of system-wide audio/video disruption. Installing games to the external SSD, and running games that are installed on the external SSD, likewise does not reproduce the problem in the same way.

The problem therefore appears to be related not merely to the raw amount of data being transferred, but potentially to the particular I/O pattern or queue behavior produced by a synthetic storage benchmark such as CrystalDiskMark. I believe this is an important diagnostic distinction because it may help identify an interaction involving the storage controller, USB/PCIe subsystem, power management, interrupt handling, firmware, or another platform component.

I am concerned that these symptoms may represent a platform-level latency problem rather than a conventional driver issue.

This concern is also supported by other reports from HP Victus owners. For example, a June 2026 HP Support Community report describes a Victus system experiencing repeated system-wide lag spikes and freezing when storage activity becomes very high, with the owner reporting that Windows, BIOS, and drivers had already been updated and also mentioning unusual CrystalDiskMark results.

There are also reports from Victus users describing short system-wide freezes accompanied by audio loss, with users investigating DPC latency as a possible explanation. One such report describes approximately one-second freezes during ordinary desktop use where the audio cuts out at the same time, with LatencyMon showing significant DPC activity.

Another HP Support Community case involving a Victus system reports crackling audio together with frame drops, and an HP Support representative specifically noted that this type of combination can be associated with power-management and driver-level behavior and DPC latency.

I am aware that other users' reports do not prove that my laptop has the same underlying fault. I am including them because the combination of symptoms—system-wide stuttering, audio interruption, storage-related triggering, and possible latency behavior—appears similar enough to warrant a deeper technical investigation.

There is also precedent in the wider gaming-laptop industry for firmware being responsible for this class of problem. ASUS ROG systems, for example, have had documented cases involving ACPI/DPC latency and system stuttering where BIOS revisions were used to address latency-related behavior. ROG community discussions specifically reference BIOS revisions intended to address DPC-latency-related problems and other firmware-level stuttering behavior.

I am not suggesting that my HP laptop necessarily has the same firmware defect as those ASUS machines. Rather, I am pointing out that persistent system-wide latency and stuttering can, in some laptop platforms, originate below the normal Windows driver layer and require a BIOS/EC/platform firmware change to resolve.

The impact of this problem has also been substantial for me.

I primarily use this laptop not only for general computing and gaming but also for education and online classes. The previous full-freeze behavior had a serious effect on that use case. When the laptop froze completely, I could miss approximately five minutes or more of a live class before I could regain control of the machine. By that point, the teacher could already have moved to an entirely different topic.

The remaining hiccups are also problematic because they can interrupt audio. During an online class, even a relatively brief system-level audio interruption can cause me to miss what a teacher has said. If the teacher asks a question immediately afterward or moves on to another explanation, there is no way for me to recover the information I did not hear. This makes the issue significantly more than a cosmetic annoyance or gaming-only stutter; it affects the reliability of the laptop for an important everyday use case.

At this point, I would therefore appreciate HP investigating the possibility of a firmware or platform-level issue, including but not limited to:

  • BIOS/UEFI firmware behavior

  • Embedded Controller (EC) firmware

  • ACPI implementation and power-management transitions

  • PCIe/USB/NVMe power-state behavior

  • Storage-controller interrupt handling

  • DPC/ISR latency and system interrupt behavior

  • NVIDIA/Intel platform power-state transitions

  • Interaction between external NVMe/USB storage and system audio/video processing

  • Any known BIOS issues affecting system responsiveness when Windows UI components invoke elevated/system-level operations

  • Any known firmware changes between F.33 and F.34 that could explain the improvement in the severe freeze behavior

I would also like to know whether there is a newer BIOS, EC firmware, chipset/platform firmware, or engineering build that contains additional fixes for system latency, stuttering, ACPI, storage, power management, or interrupt handling that may not yet be publicly available for this model.

I am willing to provide detailed diagnostic information to assist with reproduction and analysis, including LatencyMon results, Event Viewer logs, Reliability Monitor information, CrystalDiskMark results, driver versions, BIOS information, and video recordings showing the behavior.

I would specifically appreciate it if HP could avoid simply repeating the standard procedures of reinstalling Windows, reinstalling graphics drivers, running SFC/DISM, or installing the HP driver package, because these procedures have already been performed extensively and the problem continues even after a completely clean Windows installation.

The strongest evidence I can provide is that:

  1. The severe full-system freezing occurred on BIOS F.33 and earlier.

  2. The severe freezing behavior improved substantially after BIOS F.34.

  3. Short system-wide hiccups and micro-stutters still remain on F.34.

  4. These hiccups can occur during ordinary Windows desktop operations, including UAC and Notification Center interactions.

  5. The symptoms can affect audio and video, suggesting that the interruption is not limited to one application.

  6. A repeatable and unusual form of the problem occurs during CrystalDiskMark testing of an external Gen 3 NVMe SSD, where audio becomes distorted and video playback heavily stutters.

  7. Comparable sustained file transfers, game installations, and running games from the same external SSD do not reproduce the CrystalDiskMark behavior in the same way.

  8. Windows has been clean-installed and repaired, multiple driver generations have been tested, graphics drivers have been removed with DDU, and DISM/SFC have been run without resolving the issue.

Taken together, I believe there is enough evidence to justify investigating the laptop at the firmware/platform level rather than assuming that this is simply a Windows installation or ordinary driver problem.

Please let me know whether this case can be escalated to HP's engineering or firmware team, and whether there are any specialized diagnostics or firmware revisions that can be provided for this model.

Thank you for taking the time to investigate this issue. I would greatly appreciate a technical response addressing the possibility of BIOS/EC/ACPI/interrupt-latency behavior rather than another general driver-reinstallation recommendation.
