Hello,

I recently purchased a new HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 with an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor. I have noticed that the fans start spinning at low temperatures, around 40°C, even at low RPM. While the fans are indeed quiet and well-designed in terms of noise, this behavior is not ideal for this type of device, which is primarily intended for productivity and office work.

In quiet environments, especially at night, the frequent activation of the fans becomes distracting. This issue has been widely discussed across multiple online forums, and some users have even returned their devices because of it.

I kindly request that this be addressed in a future BIOS update. Ideally, the fans should not activate at such low temperatures. A fan management system similar to MacBooks — where fans typically start at around 60°C — would be much more user-friendly. Alternatively, please consider developing a utility that allows manual fan curve adjustments.

At the moment, I am using Windows in power-saving mode, have removed all unnecessary software, and disabled all startup applications, but the behavior remains unchanged — the fans still engage frequently at low temperatures.

Please address this issue, as the constant fan activation significantly impacts usability for me. Lastly, all my drivers are up to date, I have reduced the CPU power to around 50% from Windows processor power management, and I have installed the latest BIOS update. My problem has not been resolved — the fans still frequently turn on at low speed. The issue has worsened after the latest BIOS update, and the fans are now engaging more often. Please release a BIOS update that makes the fans start operating at around 60 degrees on average.

Thank you.

Hi @kirsehir,.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding fan curve behavior!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The fan activation thresholds and cooling behavior are managed by the system firmware (BIOS) to ensure optimal performance and prevent overheating. While these settings are not user-adjustable at the moment, I can confirm that your feedback regarding the fan curve, particularly the suggestion to allow fans to start at a higher temperature or to offer manual control, will be forwarded to our engineering team for review in future firmware/BIOS updates.

In the meantime, you may try the following steps to minimize fan activity:

Update BIOS and Drivers

Visit HP Support – Software & Drivers and ensure you have the latest BIOS and chipset drivers installed, as cooling profiles can be refined in updates.

Adjust Windows Power & Thermal Settings

Go to Settings → System → Power & Battery → Additional Power Settings.

Select Power Saver or create a Custom Plan with the “Maximum Processor State” set to 70–80% for both battery and plugged-in modes.

In HP Command Center (if available), set the thermal profile to Quiet mode.

Limit Background Activity

Continue to keep unnecessary apps closed and disable non-essential startup programs, as you’ve already done.

Use the Task Manager to monitor CPU usage and ensure no background process is unnecessarily boosting CPU temperatures.

I understand that these adjustments may not fully replicate the fan behavior you are hoping for, but they can help reduce fan engagement in light workloads.

I hope this helps.

I have already done everything you suggested. It seems you replied without fully reading my message. I have applied all the necessary settings. The issue originates from HP’s own BIOS software. No matter what I do, the fans still frequently turn on at low speeds when the CPU temperature reaches 40–45 degrees. Even when I open just a few Word or PDF files, the fans can start running. When the system is idle, the fans are off, but even for the most basic tasks, they frequently activate.

For a premium business-focused notebook like the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 (Intel Core Ultra 7 258V), quiet operation is very important — especially at night, when silence is crucial for users like me. Please either provide an option to manually adjust the fan curve, or release a BIOS update that sets the fans to start operating at around 60 degrees.

All of the notebooks I have used until now have been HP models. If you do not fix this issue, I may have to stop using HP products altogether. For example, ASUS offers the G-Helper application, which allows manual fan curve adjustments, and MacBooks typically start their fans at around 60 degrees. Please resolve this issue urgently, or you will lose a customer.

Thanks.

Hi @kirsehir,

I truly appreciate you taking the time to clarify the steps you’ve already tried and for sharing such detailed feedback about your experience. I understand that fan noise, especially during light workloads, can be disruptive, and I can see that this is important for you given how you use the device.

Since you’ve already updated the BIOS, reduced CPU power settings, and minimized background activity, let’s move on to some deeper checks that can sometimes help fine-tune thermal behavior:

1. Reset BIOS Settings

Sometimes after firmware updates, thermal control profiles can behave differently if prior settings remain cached.

Power off the laptop.

Turn it back on and immediately press F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS setup.

In BIOS, select Restore Defaults (usually under the Exit or Main menu).

Save and exit.
This ensures the fan curve is running on the latest profile without any leftover parameters.

I hope this helps.

Hello,

I have reset my BIOS settings to default multiple times and even reinstalled Windows, but the issue persists. The problem lies in the BIOS fan control settings. The device starts running its fans at low speed when the CPU temperature is around 40°C.

In a premium notebook, it is generally expected that the fans start operating only when the CPU temperature reaches around 60°C. This laptop is primarily designed for office use, and the number of users who play games on it is very small. In office environments, silence is one of the most important factors.

Due to the constant fan noise, I am unable to use my computer comfortably. I request that a future BIOS update reduce fan sensitivity so that the fans activate only when the CPU temperature reaches approximately 60°C.

Otherwise, the money I have spent on this device will be wasted, and I will have no choice but to sell it and avoid HP products in the future. I am currently waiting for the next BIOS version.

Best regards,

Hi @kirsehir,

Thank you for your detailed follow-up. I’ve read through everything you’ve shared, and I understand that you’ve already gone through all the standard troubleshooting steps, including BIOS resets, CPU power adjustments, driver updates, and even a clean Windows installation, without resolving the issue.

It’s clear that the behavior you’re describing is tied to the current BIOS fan curve, which is set to engage the fans at around 40–45 °C, and that this is affecting your ability to use the OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 comfortably in quiet environments.

We recognize how important quiet operation is for a premium, productivity-focused device like this, and I appreciate you taking the time to outline your expectations and comparisons to other manufacturers’ solutions. Your feedback will be part of the product improvement process.

Thank you. I sincerely hope that the fans will be configured to start operating at around 60°C in the near future. Otherwise, thousands of customers like myself will be affected and unable to use this product efficiently.

It is easy to find comments on Reddit and other forums from customers who have returned the product due to the fans activating too frequently. Adjusting this setting in the BIOS should not be difficult for HP engineers.

Best regards.

Hi @kirsehir,

Thank you for sharing such a detailed description of your experience and for clarifying all the steps you’ve already tried. I completely understand how frequent fan activation, especially at low loads and in quiet environments, can be distracting on a premium productivity laptop like the OmniBook Ultra Flip 14.

Since you’ve already ruled out software and power management causes, let’s check one more setting in the BIOS to see if it might help reduce this behavior:

Restart your laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS Setup.

Use the arrow keys to navigate to the Configuration menu.

Find the option labeled "Fan Always On".

Press Enter to change the setting (set it to Disabled).

Save and exit the BIOS.

Disabling this option can sometimes delay fan activation, which may align more closely with the behavior you’re expecting.

I hope this helps.

Dear HP Support Team,

I am writing to express my growing frustration regarding the fan control issue on my OmniBook Ultra Flip 14. Despite repeatedly resetting the BIOS settings and even performing a clean Windows reinstallation, the problem remains unresolved.

Hello,
It is evident that you are not taking my concerns seriously. I am certain of this. The "Fan Always On" option is disabled in the BIOS. Yet, the fans still start running at low speeds when the CPU temperature reaches around ~40°C. This is unacceptable for a premium office laptop. In professional environments, silence is critical, and most users (especially non-gamers) expect the fans to activate only when temperatures reach 60°C or higher.

My Demands:
I urgently request that HP release a BIOS update incorporating the following changes:

  1. Adjust the fan curve so that fans activate no earlier than 55–60°C under light loads.

  2. Prioritize silent operation for office/productivity usage.

Failure to address this issue will result in my permanent avoidance of HP products in the future. I expect immediate action.

Sincerely,
