Hello, I have an HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2xx. I tried to upgrade my RAM from 8GB to 32GB by adding two 16GB sticks. I inserted both RAM sticks into the slots and what I believe are the original and the reserve slots, then ran the BIOS to check the RAM capacity, but it only shows 16GB. At first, I thought I bought the wrong RAM (maybe they gave me two 8GB sticks), but I checked the label, and both are indeed 16GB. I then tried removing the RAM from the reserve slots and only ran the laptop with one stick in the original slot, but it still showed only 16GB. After that, I transferred the RAM to the reserve slot, leaving the original slots empty, but my laptop wouldn't even turn on. Is there something wrong with the slots, or do I need to update something?

Please help! I don't want to waste the 1 out of the 2 sticks I bought, nor do I want to incur repair costs since it's been a lot so far.

P.S. I've had my laptop since 2021, and I just decided to upgrade the RAM now, so the warranty has expired.

If the laptop fails to boot when just one memory module is inserted but boots OK if the other module is placed by itself in the same slot, its the memory module not the slot. If it will not boot with either module in one of the slots by itself, then its the slot.
