Just bought hp 960 ergonomic wireless keyboard and wanted to reverse the function keys so when I hit them, I get the F1, F2 function instead of mute, volume down, etc.  I figured out you can press the FN key with the SHIFT (FN LOCK) keys to make this happen.  However, everytime I close my laptop, then later open it, the functions keys are reversed back to the mute, etc., and I have to press FN + SHIFT again.  How can I get the reversed function keys to stay on, maybe change the default somehow?  Help appreciated:)

Hi @DepRep

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

To permanently reverse the function keys on your HP 960 Ergonomic Wireless Keyboard, you can check for a solution through software settings or the BIOS on your computer.

Here are some steps to attempt:

HP Keyboard Software Utility:

  • Check if there is an HP Keyboard software utility available for your model.
  • This utility might offer customization options for function keys behavior.

Keyboard Shortcut Settings:

  • Go to the Windows start menu and search for "Keyboard" settings.
  • Look for an option to permanently switch the function key behavior. On some systems, this might be labeled as "Action Keys Mode."

BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your computer and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F2, F10, or DEL during startup, depending on your model).
  • Look for a setting that controls the function key behavior. This might be under 'Advanced' or 'System Configuration.'
  • Change the setting to enable or disable the Function Key Lock. Save and exit the BIOS.

Using HP Hotkey Support:

  • Ensure your laptop is running HP Hotkey Support software if available, as this might manage function key operations.

If neither software utilities nor BIOS settings offer a solution, it might be necessary to press FN + SHIFT manually each time.
