HP ENVY x360 Convertible Laptop PC 15m-ed1023dx

laptop getting so so hot upper left hand corner I have tried everything help! I don't keep multiple browsers open and everything up to date, used canned air to blow out the vents , have it elevated. I don't know what to do.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I completely understand how frustrating it is when your laptop overheats despite your best efforts. Let's go through some steps to help resolve this issue.

Step 1: Check for Background Processes

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Check for any programs or processes using high CPU or GPU resources.
  • End Task on non-essential apps.
     

Step 2: Adjust Power and Performance Settings

Reducing performance can lower heat output.

  • Search "Edit Power Plan" in the Windows search bar.
  • Click "Change Advanced Power Settings".
  • Under Processor Power Management, lower the Maximum Processor State to 80-90%.
  • Click Apply


Step 3: Perform a System Diagnostics Test

HP's built-in diagnostics can detect hardware issues.

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Press the Power button + Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
  • Select System DiagnosticsComponent TestsThermal Test.
  • Follow on-screen instructions.
     

Step 4:  BIOS Restore :
1) Shut down the computer, keep the  charger plugged
2) Hold down the Windows and B button together while the computer is still turned off.  
3) Turn on the computer and continue to hold the Windows and B buttons until a BIOS Recovery screen appears.  
4) Follow the on-screen instructions and click on OK
