Hi,
I currently have a HP Notebook (15-db0996na/15-db0xxx) which has the Ryzen 5 2500u processor. I know that the Ryzen Mobile processors have been released for over a year now and there have no significant updates regarding AMD Radeon drivers or BIOS updates and I am wondering why this is the case?
Acer has released BIOS updates for the Acer Swift 3 which features the Ryzen 5 2500u/Ryzen 7 2700u and these updates allow the video ram to be increased from the default 256MB to 1024MB. It also provides better GPU clock speeds. I am not sure if the HP Envy (x360) has received any new BIOS updates or drivers to correct the issues these Ryzen laptops have been having for the last year.
HP needs to publish updates to the AMD Radeon Adrenalin drivers so that the current driver, Adrenalin 17.7 (23.20.826.2304), can be updated to Adrenalin 18.10. The video drivers are instable and I am not sure why this is not being fixed?
Will this be fixed in the near future and pushed to all HP laptops with Ryzen Mobile processors or will there be no updates from now on while other manufacturers continue to provide updates to their laptops?
Thank you.

Try cp000 CTO model's driver 23.20.821.2560 with Aug 2, 2018 date. Use force update method via device manager if it doesn't fully recognise GPU (check by customise update path, make sure it updates GPU driver).

Hi,
Thank you for the reply. Do you have any issues with this driver? I have noticed that with some applications/games the latest AMD Adrenalin drivers or Windows Update drivers for Vega 8 has their resolution locked to 1920x1080. I have yet to try the latest AMD Adrenalin 18.11.2 and there are some new windows drivers at https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=DEV_15DD%26REV_C4 (Windows Catalog).
I believe your HP Envy is slightly more powerful in terms of the throttling limit or STAPM limit that is set by HP or AMD. I do not know which HP laptop with the Ryzen 2500u processor has the latest graphics update from HP.

For locked to native resolution problem, I'm using forced driver update method on 23.20.821.2560 driver with Aug 2, 2018 date for Witcher 3 and Divinity Original Sin 2.
I already tried Adrenalin 18.11.2 via forced update method and it has locked native resolution problem for mentioned games.
I also used Windows group policy to stop Windows Update installing 22.19.655.1 which has higher BSOD issues.
Update: I'm testing Adrenalin 18.5.1 (24.20.11016.4) driver and it seems to fix locked resolution problem with the games mentioned. Brightness screen controls still works.

I tried the driver for the HP Envy x360 (cp000) that you suggested (23.20.821.2560) and there are still issues, one is that VLC media player does not play any videos. If I open a video then the player waits for a while and then displays a white screen. The Microsoft Catalog drivers seem to fix these issues and work fine however it is still an issue along with the resolution lock in the official AMD Adrenalin drivers.
I will try out 18.5.1 like you mentioned and see if it make a difference. I installed 24.20.12028.6005 from the Windows Update Catalog and it works fine so far. I have not yet been able to test this on games that have their resolution locked. The last game which had its resolution locked was Forza Horizon 4 from Windows Store. it would only show 1920x1080 in the video options.
I will see if Adrenalin 18.5.1 makes a difference. If you do not mind me asking, how did you enforce the windows group policy to prevent further updates?

To block specfic device driver automatic updates by group policy method, read https://www.maketecheasier.com/block-driver-updates-specific-devices-windows10/
I'm using 18.5.1 with "Vari Bright" disabled.
Example from my bq100cto and group policy
i use kcodec's MPC-HC player instead of video lan player.
If I use Video Lan player, I set video output to Direct3D11 video output and hardware accelerated decoding to DirectX Video Acceleration DXVA 2.0.

Thank you very much for the help, I will give this a try using the Registry method. I have noticed that HP has provided some new updates for Video Drivers by providing version 24.20.12050.0 (November 19, 2018). I tried this driver and it seemed to work well and did not have any major issues. AMD have released their new Adrenalin 2019 Edition driver (https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-18-12-2) and this seems to work the best, it fixes the resolution locking issue and provides more performance than the new HP driver.
I believe the HP Envy x360 received a BIOS update to AGESA 1.1.0.5 which improves the video memory size and the GPU clock speeds. The laptop I have already had AGESA 1.1.0.5 but there is no increase in VRAM or improvements in GPU clock speeds (there is only 1 BIOS update listed on the software and drivers page for my laptop - F.11 Rev A).
