Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hi,

I downloaded two BIOS drivers for my laptop from the HP support site. The first driver istalled correctly and the laptop continued running well but for some reason, after installing the second driver the laptop has been having a very loud screeching noise making it impossible to use the computer. I have tried various BIOS reset methods on the net and all have failed.

The name of the drivers is:

BIOS (2)

  1. HP Notebook system Bios Update (Intel Processor) - F.1B Rev.A -This ran well.
  2. HP Notebook system Bios Update (Intel Processor) - F.13 - This started the loud screeching noise

Please assist.

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums After reading your post I see that your notebook is making screeching noise after installing the bios. I will be a delighted to assist you here.

Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. 🙂  Kudos to you on that score.:)

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Is the noise is coming from speaker of the notebook itself?

Meanwhile, perform a BIOS recovery.

  1. Turn off the notebook.

  2. Plug the notebook into a power source using the power adapter.

  3. With the notebook off, press and hold the Windows logo key  and the B key at the same time.

  4. While pressing those keys, press and hold the Power button on the computer for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows logo key  and the B or V key until the HP BIOS update screen displays or you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps).

The HP BIOS Update screen displays, and the BIOS update begins automatically. This might take several minutes, and you might hear additional beeping sounds.

    • If the HP BIOS Update screen does not display, repeat the previous steps. If the issue persists after repeating the steps, skip to the next step to Download a replacement BIOS file.

    • If the Power light turns off, the notebook has turned off because the Power button was held too long. Repeat the previous steps, making sure to hold the Power button for 2 to 3 seconds only.

    • If your notebook starts Windows, update the BIOS to the latest version using the standard BIOS update procedure. For more information about updating your notebook BIOS, go to Updating the BIOS (Notebooks).

  5. Click Continue Startup to prompt the notebook to restart immediately, or allow the notebook to restart automatically when the timer reaches zero.

Clicking Continue Startup on the HP BIOS Update screen
  6. After the notebook restarts, press Enter to continue.

  7. After Windows starts, if a message displays stating that the notebook was improperly shut down or that a boot problem was detected, follow the on-screen instructions.

You can now to enter the BIOS menu or start the Windows operating system.

If the issues persists, check where the noise is coming from:

If it is coming from the speaker, connect a headphone to the notebook and check if it still makes noise.

If yes, then update the audio drivers on the notebook, download the audio drivers from the below link.

If the its coming from notebook and not from the speaker,

This issue may require one to one interaction with the HP Phone Support.

I suggest that you contact HP Phone Support for further assistance at the link: https://hp.care/2uJxnug

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.
