HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4V9AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a HP Laptop 15-ef2xxx (Produce ID 4J0V2UA#ABA). I don't use card reader a lot, so I can't say when it stopped working. Nothing wrong with the card. It works in another laptop. Here are the troubleshooting steps I've taken:

Checked/Updated BIOS - F10 on restart. There is no option under CONFIGURATION to check if card reader is listed or enabled/disabled. Updated from revision f.34 to f.37.

Run Hardware Diagnostics - F2 on restart. Selecting COMPONENT TEST -->STORAGE. There is no option for SD Card to test.

Check Hidden Devices in Device Manager - There is no MEMORY TECHNOLOGY DEVICES listed under device manager. There is no card reader under UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS.

Updated Chipset Drivers - Updated to AMD Chipset Driver Revision number 8.02.18.577

Cleaned Card Reader Slot - Used compressed air to clean slot.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @santeelj

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

Since your SD card reader issue began after a repair and continues even after another repair attempt, it's possible that either a connection to the card reader was missed during the repair or there's a hardware issue. However, we can try a few more steps to troubleshoot it.

Check Device Manager

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Look for SD Host Controllers or Memory Technology Devices. If there’s a yellow warning symbol, the SD card reader may have a driver issue.
  • If it’s not listed, it could mean the SD card reader is not being detected at all, potentially due to a hardware issue.

Reinstall or Update Drivers

  • Uninstall drivers:
    • In Device Manager, right-click on the SD card reader (if listed) and choose Uninstall device.
    • Restart your laptop, and Windows should automatically reinstall the correct driver.
  • Install drivers manually:
    • Visit the HP drivers page for your Victus Gaming Laptop 15.
    • Download and install the latest chipset and card reader drivers from HP’s website.

Check BIOS Settings

  • Sometimes after a repair, BIOS settings may reset. Ensure that the SD card reader is enabled in the BIOS.
  • To enter BIOS: Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 during startup.
  • Look for any settings related to the SD card reader under Advanced or Integrated Peripherals and ensure it's enabled.

Check for Windows Updates

  • Make sure your system is fully updated by going to Settings > Windows Update and installing any pending updates.

Run Windows Hardware Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to let Windows identify potential problems with the SD card reader.

External SD Reader Works

  • Since an external SD reader works, it suggests the issue lies specifically with your internal SD card reader.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.

The issue did not start after a repair. I stated in my post that I have already tried all of your suggestions. It looks like this was a cut and paste response that didn't even read my post.
