Welcome to HP forums, I see that the SD card reader is not recognized.

Have you installed any recent updates that may have caused the issue? did you attempt a system restore?

  • While you respond to that, here are a few things I recommend you do:

Go into device manager and uninstall the card reader, it should be listed as IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

This will uninstall and reinstall the driver for the card reader.

  1. Open Device Manager (Hold Windows + X key and select device manager)

  2. Follow the instructions in the preceding procedure to uninstall the device.

  3. If you are prompted to restart the computer, follow these steps:

    • Plug in the device and then restart the computer. The device will be detected and reinstalled after Windows restarts.
    • Follow any instructions on-screen to complete installation.

  4. If you are not prompted to restart the computer, follow these steps:

    • In Device Manager, in the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes.

*Note
Scan for hardware changes will not reinstall a Plug and Play device if a driver is already installed on the computer. If the device has not been uninstalled, Scan for hardware changes will not detect the connection of the device as a change. You must uninstall a Plug and Play device for Windows to start an installation when you connect the device again.

If the issue persists, try the first driver on the list from the link below: Click here

I know he's done a reinstallation of the driver, but these are the steps suggested by HP and if done exactly as mentioned, it should resolve the issue, if not, this could be a hardware malfunction.

Let me know how it goes.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

I havent done a system update recently, and this is really the first time that I am trying to use the reader, so I dont even know if it ever worked. The reader doesnt show up in the device manager either, so I cannot follow the steps you have provided.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate your time and effort.

Insert the sd card and then check if it's getting detected.

Try with multiple sd cards and check if that helps.

Update the Bios, and memory card drivers from HP support website:- click here
