HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15m-ed0023dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Purchased HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15m-ed0023dx less than one month ago. When did initial setup, had to install many windows updates and some HP drivers through the support app. Been having an issue with the SD Card slot that comes with laptop. Won't read a card. Had a card wanted to load some pics. This card is from an old JVC camera. I was able to use a Brother printer to read the card data. I also was able to use a usb to usb connection for this very laptop to read the card. However, the SD card slot again not reading card or driving not even being recognized when an sd card is inserted. I checked the driver in device manager. It was created June of 2019. I checked the drivers page on HP site for my make and model. I was able to download a revision A. However it will not allow for the driver install update to proceed. First was given that it will not run with OS 10...etc which is Windows 10 it came with the machine. Then I got a failed to extract cab message.

If there can be any help out there much appreciated.

Stay safe and stay well.

Try these troubleshooting tips if you are having problems reading and writing data to memory cards:

  • Try a different memory card of the same type in the same slot. If the different memory card works, the card reader is good and the original memory card should be replaced.

  • Some cards have a read/write security switch on the card. Make sure the switch is set to Write Enabled before attempting to write data to it.

  • Make sure the amount of data you attempted to store has not exceeded the capacity of the card.

  • Inspect the ends of the memory cards for dirt or material closing a hole or spoiling a metal contact. Clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth and small amounts of isopropyl alcohol. Replace the memory card if necessary.

  • Make sure the memory card is supported by the card reader.

  • Make sure the memory card is fully inserted into the slot.

  • Turn off the computer, disconnect the power cord, and remove the notebook battery. Then shine a flashlight into the empty card reader slot to see if any pins inside are bent. Straighten any bent pins with the end of a mechanical pencil. Have the computer serviced if a pin is bent and is touching another pin.

If errors persist, replace the memory card.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
