I have an HP Notebook 14-dq1043cl that is 2 years old. I have never tried to use the SD card reader before today. The computer is set to automatically install HP updaes from Microsoft, so it is now fully updated and running Windows 11. When I put in an SD card (a brand new one with absolutely nothing on it), nothing happens. When I look for it in File explorer, the SD card reader is not listed under devices and drives. It is not listed in the device manager, either. There is nothing in the device manager that indicates something needing an updated driver or having been improperly installed. I checked the Services app to make sure that anything related to reading the SD drive was running. There were 3 such services, none of which were running. I was able to start two of them up, but after a few seconds, they stopped running. The third wouldn't start at all. It's like the computer thinks there is no SD card reader. What can I do? Will HP update the SD reader driver to be compatible with Windows 11?

The specs of your machine is
https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06599980
It has 1 multi-format SD media card reader which can be one of the following cards
- Alcor Micro Card Reader
- Realtek Card Reader
Its parts list does not say which one
https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer?searchtext=1V782UA
You have to try one by one:
Realtek driver : https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp138001-138500/sp138214.exe
Alcor driver: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp138001-138500/sp138212.exe
One of them should work.
Regards.
