I haven't ever used the SD slot since I purchased the Pavilion in 2014.  It still works great and I have no issues with it but when I inserted an SD card into it recently, nothing happened.  Does anyone know anything about this

What is the full model number or product number of your notebook and what operating system are you running on it?

HP Recommended

Its a HP Pavilion 15-p077na Notebook.  Its Windows 10 (64 bit)

It's possible that since the notebook originally came with Windows 8.1 and was upgraded to W10, that the SD card reader driver needs to be updated to a newer version.

See if installing this driver gets the SD card reader to work:

Realtek PCIe Media Card Reader Driver

10.0.320.170

sp84713.exe

Thank you, I will give it a try and let you know if it solves the problem.

You're very welcome.

If it doesn't most likely the SD card reader head is defective.

I once had a notebook where everything appeared to be correct.

Latest drivers installed, no errors in the device manager.

SD card reader reported working normally, yet it would not read any SD cards.

Ive installed the driver, I presume it automatically uses the new driver?  Sorry old person 😞  I have put in a SD card and still nothing is happening

HP Recommended

Yes, the driver is installed automatically.

In the Windows device manager, do you see any devices that need drivers?

They would have a little warning sign next to the device description.

If not, then unfortunately the SD card reader is probably defective.

You can always buy a USB SD card reader and that should resolve the problem as far as reading SD cards on your PC.

No warning signs so as you say presume it is defective.  I appreciate your assistance.  I did not know you could get a usb sd reader.  I will look into that.  Thanks again

Can you post a screenshot of your PC's device manager or name the device that has an issue?

Normally a warning sign means the driver isn't installed.
