HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cs0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I keep getting a SMART Hard Disk Error whenever I start my laptop and it also runs incredibly slow to the point where it's essentially non functional right now. I'm not very tech-savvy but I have been reading support pages/discussion boards regarding the issue and trying to fix it by running chkdsk in command, rebooting, etc. but nothing seems to work. I backed up my files on a USB drive and I ran the HP Hard Drive Test, but it keeps failing and I can't seem to get in touch with an actual person on HP's end to figure out next steps I just keep going in circles. I would like to salvage this laptop, I just want to know if that is even possible or if I have to get a new SSD.

Hi:

If the drive is failing the tests, it will have to be replaced and the operating system reinstalled.

Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the removal and replacement procedures.

After you replace the failed drive, you should be able to use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use that utility...
